30 Years in Business: Longevity and Legacy?

We’ve been thinking a lot about legacy and longevity in business. We (Postmodern Company) just celebrated our thirty year anniversary with our friends, colleagues and clients. Every small business owner and small brand can attest that every year in business is a statement on longevity.  How do we keep doing the things we love with the people we love to work with and get paid? This is an everyday, every week, every month challenge. Even after 30 years, the goal is still longevity.
Postmodern Company gets paid to be creative. Creativity is not a commodity. It’s tricky business this business we’re in. It forces us Creatives to constantly reinvent ourselves for the sake of relevancy. Who we were then cannot fully be who we are now, but we can’t lose ourselves in being something we’re not. So this begs the question of: “how to stay relevant to beget longevity?” So long as you still love what you do and you want to keep doing it – isn’t longevity the big prize? Wealth, ego, prestige – these are all byproducts of work produced, but aren’t they ultimately way less valuable than longevity?
relevance + time = longevity?
We can easily get lost in producing video content that is #trending, #viral, #organic, but the efforts to do so can be a disservice to longevity.
Legacy is the next thing to consider…
longevity + time + reputation = legacy?
At 30 years ,we are so lucky and happy and grateful and proud to still be doing great work with great people. Longevity is what we keep in focus.
